Sapfó (or Psápfo as her name probably was in Aeolic Greek) is such an interesting person. A respected and loved poet in her time, and 2500 years later she is still a respected and loved poet. (If you like poetry you really should read some of her works, it's mind-blowing and beautiful).

Today she is also a symbol for lesbian women, and her birthplace Lesbos was the etymological origin of the term lesbian. Whether she actually was gay herself, have been debated, but the debate has often been influenced by the debaters' own views on homosexuality.
