Strong women, tough men. The workers on the railroad are one of a kind.


It takes guts to build a railroad, and there is definately a lot of guts in this bunch. The men were hard working and strong, and with a coarse sense of humor. Most women would feel uncomfortable around this vulgar gang. But not this woman. Svarta Bjørn (Anna Rebekka) was both smart and beautiful and kept the men on their toes. She was a living person, and became famous in Norway and Sweden. There are, however, few facts and many myths about her, which has spured several novels, films and songs about her.
