History Challenge Extreme!

This is Noor and her daughter Myrto, who you know from my story if you follow it. They are generation two and three in my legacy/History Challenge save. I love that challenge, and I have learned so much so far, and I am sure I will learn even more in the future. I just have one problem: it moves too fast!

Beware of malware in the Sims community

Update 21.02.24: Provided you have an updated ModGuard (see below) in your Mod-folder it should be safe to download CC again. However, here is an important advise from Kuttoe (SimsAfterDark Discord): "As a general safety reminder, DO NOT download pre-made Mods folders or CC dumps from any website. This was always a bad idea before, but now there is a concrete risk of viruses sneaking their way into those folders."

In all the years I've played the sims I've never had any problems with virus or similar problems with mods. It's been a safe and fun community, if you just follow some very basic rules. Unfortunately this has now changed, since malware have been added to some mods, and have even passed through the upload process of large sites like ModtheSims, CurseForge and TSR. The malware may also have infiltrated other, smaller sites.

This is what you should do

  1. Get information - Read available, updated information. You can find it at for example at the Sims After Dark info, or on their Discord. Luth's Things, and other trusted, active modders on Tumblr also provide information.

  2. Check if you could have been compromised - you can find information about this at the same places as mentioned above

  3. Get the ModGuard - ModGuard is a Mod Malware Protection file made by TwistedMexi.

  4. Be careful - You should always be cautious concerning what and from where you download. But at the moment I wouldn't download anything Sims-related anywhere (except for the ModGuard mentioned above). In a few days someone hopefully will know more, so just be a little patient. When things are a bit more clear: download only from the original creator. Don't put yourself at risk by installing shared folders, even from your friends. They might not know themselves that malware is amongst their files.

My own cc are just simple recolors and should be safe, but I still wouldn't download anything right now. Also, I have recommend some mods in my posts, for my saves, sims and builds. As far as I know they are in the clear, but since we don't know the full extent of the problem, please wait with downloads until the situation is more clarified.

Play safe and happy simming! 😀

Hiatus, kind of ...

Happy New Year everybody!

Since it's been really long since I posted anything I just wanted to drop a note.

I haven't given up on the Sims yet, but, as it seems, I am on a hiatus. Or should I say that I am on a recoloring/building hiatus? Because I do occasionally open my game to play a little. It just doesn't manifest itself to something shareable.

This winter I've had some stubborn health issues, so my capacity has been low. It's boring and very annoying, and sometimes painful, but at least it's not something really dangerous. Still, I'm struggling to find energy even for real life things, so there is not much left for simming.

I was able to have some tiny bit of progress in my story at least, but even that might be difficult the coming months, if I'm not feeling any better. I hope to be back with recolors and what-not in a few months, but until then; I'm still around, drooling over all the wonderful cc you make, and enjoying your lookbooks and stories. It's very inspiring! 💖

Love y'all!

Agnes is angry, and so am I!

It has been a rather slow spring for me sims-wise, some small projects here and there and updates for my story is not much to brag about. I was hoping to do some more recolors, and maybe learn new things (👀 but Blender...), I miss building and generally I had plans, as soon as these busy months were over.

Then something happened in my game after the May patch. Without warning I had the auto-aging bug, and at first I couldn't believe it, because it was supposed to be fixed last year. And since I couldn't see anyone else reporting it, I realized that it might be only in my game. Hence, probably CC related.

All my saves are now corrupted. đŸ˜ĢI don't mind so much for some of them, but for my Early Civilization game save it's catastrophic, and even with all my backups I was not able to restore a working save. Or, more likely, even if I install a backup save, the problem will continue to reoccur, since it's caused by a mod or CC still in my mod folder.

So, I will now have to do the 50/50 method to find what is causing this, and when that is taken care of I still don't know if it will be reversed, so I might have to manually edit my 160 sims in the save with MCCC. It will be a lot of work.

I still have a lot going on in my personal life (happy things, but they keep me busy), and I don't have much time for simming. Also I must admit this bug/problem is leaving me totally demotivated to open the game, and I've started to question if I can live my life perfectly well without The Sims.

Maybe I will find the time and motivation again, but it will not be this week, and probably not the next or the one after that. I'm feeling just like Agnes, you see, angry with EA and their updates not working, bad patches, bad cc, bugs and the whole flicking thing that steals my energy and sucks all the fun out of it.

No matter what you do, or where you are, I'm wishing you a wonderful summer - with or without The Sims!

Happy New Year!

 Hello everbody,

I hope you've been enjoying my Early Civ stuff? At some point ahead I will continue with a new era, with fresh CC and builds, but first I need to take a little break to do other things.

December was such a busy months for me irl, so first of all I need to catch up on everything, including patch updates, mod updates and general research. Secondly, I must admit that I miss playing just for fun, and posting for my story about The First Ones. On top of that I also want to upload more of my recolors to CurseForge, for what I hope is easier (or alternative) download.

Also, to be honest, I don't have any really good ideas for new sim-projects at the moment. Usually ideas come along when I play, so let's see what happens when I open my game 😊  However, if you have suggestions for simple recolors or builds, please let me know!

Sims is such a dear hobby for me, and I want it to continue to be relaxing and fun. No stress! So just now there is no schedule for updates (except for my story), but I will be back for sure as soon as I have something to share!

Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement, I wish you all a Happy and Playful New Year!

Happy simming!

Some updates - a summary

I've done some updates and changes to some of my Early Civilization lots, see the changes under the cut.

This is how I play

I don’t have a strict set of rules, it just doesn’t fit well with the way my brain works, and the most important thing for me when playing is to enjoy myself. If something is too tedious, complicated or simply not interesting, I might even cheat...

That said, I take a lot of inspiration and information from the original challenge, and later versions and adaptations. I also do general research for each era, which is part of the fun for me. I find information from books, Wikipedia, sims groups and Discord-channels or wherever I can find it.

I prefer the rotational play style, not only for this challenge, but in general. I have one main family (the heir), but I also play the other families in the same neighbourhood, unless they are NPC’s. Sometimes I even have families outside the neighbourhood, especially when I’ve played the save for a long time. I find it helpful to have a spreadsheet where I keep track of my sims names, their partners, children, carrier, address and so on. Nothing too complicated! 😃 For the History Challenge I also have a health score. (You can download the spreadsheet here and adapt it for your own use)

I use random traits and ambitions, either from the game directly or from the James Turner Random traits generator. For the ambitions I might have to hit several times to get something era appropriate, but for the traits I usually just use whatever comes up, as long as I can see the logic in it. Example; the Bookworm trait wouldn’t really fit any era before Gutenberg (1450), since there were no books. But I’ve used it even in Stone Age era, thinking that a sim interested in symbols and rock carvings could have that trait.

I use a random number generator (any would do) for my health score system. This is how I count:

  • A baby is born with +/- 40. Since you can’t kill a baby, they get a new chance when becoming toddler, where +/- 30 is added to the score. If the sum is less than 0, they will not survive. I add +/- 30 for each age transition, except adult to elder where I use +/- 40.
  • When a baby is born I also give extra score to the parents; +2/-8 for the mother, and +2/-4 for the father.
  • (I will probably adjust the scores a bit, to cover for the development of medicine, and/or special periods like the Black Death, or use a mod.)
  • When a NPC or a new adult sim is added to the household they get a basic score of 20.
  • To kill a sim (and a lot of other purposes) I use the MCCC mod, but you could also just remove the sim from the family in CAS with the cheat ‘cas.fulleditmode’. The disadvantage with that is that removed sims won’t show up in the in-game family tree.
  • Cats and dogs have no score.
In addition to the possible deaths by the health score there is always the risk of in-game diseases and dangers.

I don’t keep general scores or follow any point system, but I do try to fulfill any ambition my sims have. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes not. 😏 If you want to play with a score system, I recommend the original challenge, which you can find here.

I also like to see the development of my sims, especially if they are part of my story. As a family tree with the Plum Tree App  now replaced with Family Echo, and as individuals through my Character presentation blog.

Unlike the original challenge, I will progress to a new era when the heir is about to become a Young Adult, not when a new generation is born. This works better for the story, I think, and I also think it makes sense realistically speaking. Every new and young generation bring technology, art, ideas, politics etc forward.

Edit 03.09.23: I decided to make some adjustments to the health score system, because I really hate to kill sims, especially when they are not adults, and the family tree filled up with dead sims, and I don't find it enjoyable playwise. So until they reach childhood I don't kill them when they get a negative score, but give them (imaginary) health problems. Some are visual (with mods), like blindness, burns, scars, some not. There are mods/traits to make health issues more realistic, but my game is so complicated already, so I didn't add it at this point. From teens and up I'm thinking of letting them live if they have -10 to 0, but with some disadvantage. I will also give mass negative points every now and then, to mimic epidemics or war.

I'm on a hiatus - Update 19/1-22

Ooops! I did it again!

I've chosen to be disconnected from my main computer for some weeks, so there will not be any new sim uploads for at least two months. I'm on a hiatus! 🏄

Updates ahead

I need to slow down a bit.

As many of you know I have new uploads on Wednesdays and Saturdays. As many of you also know, I have a chronical illness, but on top of that I am swamped with real life obligations at the moment, which is making it difficult to keep up with my self-imposed schedule. So I am from now on changing my schedule 😁 In other words; until I'm more on top of things, I will be uploading only once a week (ie Wednesdays).

For latest news, updates and social interaction you can follow me on Twitter or Tumblr. Be kind to yourselves and others, and have fun!

Happy simming! 💕

Make your own...

I love to make stories in the sims!

However: Taking photoes in Sims 4 is not that easy, and English is not my mother tounge, so it's not that easy peasy for me to cook something together and publish it effortlessly on the blog.
Honestly - I don't have the necessary inspiration and energy at the moment. But maybe one day...

In the meantime, I'm sure you can make some pretty great stories yourself! đŸ’Ŧ👀😱😛😆💟👏
